THE BEST IDEAS FOR CELINE DION MUSIC VIDEOS THAT NEVER MADE IT PAST THE DRAWING BOARD (a tribute to Nick Coburn)

1. Love Can Move Mountains: With its driving beat and inspiring choir backup singers, Celine originally conceived this music with her being a sleek snow bunny. The backup choir follow Celine down the mountain, skiing in their full choir robes. Other b-roll includes Celine singing with a glass of champagne the ski resort’s hot tub with snow all around and her joking with friends in the lodge by the fireplace.

2. My Heart Will Go On: Blame “Titanic” for foiling Celine’s original conception of this video. Instead of ocean liners and heirloom jewels, Celine wanted to have a simple love story. She would play the role of a lady mail carrier who shamelessly flirts with the mail of her dreams when she delivers him the daily mail. Only problem is she only talks to him through written word by being her love interest’s secret pen pal. By the end of the video, she sheds the stifling USPS uniform, lets her hair down, and arranges to meet her man in nearby humble park. It’s like the final scene of “You’ve Got Mail,” but so much more emotional.

3. That’s The Way It Is: It was budget constraints that hindered production on this video. Celine was going to portray a high power corporate executive in a board meeting, tellin’ it like it is. But when Celine wanted to use extensive pyro-technics during the climax of the song where she planned to be belting from a rope ladder off a helicopter, producers ixnayed the whole project due to insurance issues.

4. It’s All Coming Back to Me Now: Little known fact is that there is a growing sect of Dion fans who are both love the Canadian singer and sci-fi. Celine pushed a futuristic video for this song to please this demographic. Forget the motorcycle riding boyfriend who wipes out in a dramatic crash in the final video. Celine was forced to go the more “traditional” video route with that one. Celine originally wanted this video to open in a massive intergalatic cruiser somewhere in deep space and her in a silver space suit with a deep plunging neck line. Everything is good and well on the ship until Celine accidentally touches a good looking space cadet on the arm and has flashes of her earthly live where she laughs and loves. Celine Dion is now currently in the midst of a lawsuit she filed against Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof for stealing her memory jogging tactic for the LOST finale.

5. The Power of Love: Celine gets it. She’s a gay icon. That’s why she wanted to reach out to her lady fans who inevitably fall in love with their boyfriend who mysteriously shares their love for singing Celine during long car rides. With lyrics like “I’m your lady/You are my man/Whenever you reach for me/I do all that I can/We’re heading for something/Somewhere I’ve never been” Celine thought she couldn’t spell it out any clearer. The video was going to be a tale of sexual suppression, with Celine’s music video boyfriend pushing her away, leaving subtle hints like leaving his little black book open with the words “COFFEE WITH CARL” circled in red. The final scene would be her confronting her lover at the coffee shop, where all the signs point to infidelity. But Celine in her everlasting grace doesn’t yell when her boyfriend realizes he’s been caught. She just sings. Cut to a single tear shot.
